Andrea Derrick named Lexington Three Teacher of the Year

Batesburg-Leesville, SC 10/10/2021 – On Thursday, October 7, Andrea Derrick was named the 2021-2022 Lexington County School District Teacher of the Year. The award was presented at a special banquet held at Southern Occasions in historic Batesburg.

Ms. Derrick teaches at Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School where she majored in math, science and social subjects. The 2021-2022 school year marks its 28th year in teaching, 14 years of which were spent in Lexington School District Three as an eighth grade teacher, Digital Coach and now as a fourth grade teacher. .

Ms. Derrick graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts with a specialization in Early Childhood Education and a Basic Science Concentration in 1993. She also obtained her Bachelor Plus 18 certification by taking courses at the College. of Charleston, Clemson. University, University of South Carolina, and Winthrop University. Ms. Derrick holds certifications in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, College Math, College Science, Biology, and Gifted Education.

Mrs. Derrick is married to Clay Derrick and has a daughter, Jill, and a son-in-law, Cole. She also has two furry children (Bailey and Callie) who are of the Catahoula dog breed. In her spare time, she enjoys being with her family, playing with her dogs, camping, exercising, and cheering on the USC Gamecocks and Batesburg-Leesville Panthers.

This is the second time that Ms. Derrick has won the Lexington Three Teacher of the Year title. During the 2007-2008 school year, Ms. Derrick was the Batesburg-Leesville Middle School Teacher of the Year and was subsequently named the District Teacher of the Year. Ms Derrick was one of four teachers vying for the 2021-2022 Lexington County School District Teacher of the Year designation.

Other finalists included Jennifer Richardson of Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School, Rhonda Rose of Batesburg-Leesville Middle School and Sadie Hallman of Batesburg-Leesville High School.

The four finalists for Teacher of the Year walked away with a host of prizes Thursday night donated by various businesses, organizations and individuals in the community. Lexington Three would like to warmly thank the following sponsors for their support:
