Man arrested after his dog bit 10-year-old child in Noida settlement

After a 10-year-old boy was allegedly bitten by his neighbour’s dog in a posh residential colony in Noida’s Sector 56, the animal’s owner was arrested on Saturday.

According to the police, a complaint was filed by the boy’s mother. Vivek Trivedi, SHO of Sector 58 Police Station, said an FIR was filed against the accused under ICC Articles 289 (negligent conduct to an animal), 324 (willfully causing injury by weapons or dangerous means) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) . “The incident occurred on the evening of August 31 at approximately 7:00 p.m., during which the complainant’s child, who was nearby, was attacked by the defendant’s pet dog – a Labrador – who was outside without a leash. The complainant alleged that when she raised the matter with the landlord, he also attempted to threaten her,” Trivedi said.

The boy’s family moved to the settlement in March. The child told The Indian Express: “I was going to the market and was passing by (the owner of their dog’s) house around 7pm when their dog… suddenly attacked me. He bit my left hand, then his fingernails grazed my left shoulder.

According to the mother, it was a passerby who helped her son and contacted her. “We took him to a nearby private clinic, where he was treated. I went to the owner and found he was missing…He showed up later…and started arguing with me…He treated the whole thing like it was a very small issue…” , she alleged.

“… My son has been on antibiotics for two days and hasn’t been to school,” she added. The boy said he was feeling pain in his fingers and shoulder.

The mother also alleged that the landlord has not contacted her or her family since the incident. “We haven’t been to their house. We had never interacted with them before and had never met them. He behaved badly with me even though I am a woman, instead of apologizing to me. Unka kutta mere beast ka gala bhi pakad sakta; simple tarpaulin dead ki bhi ho sakti thi. Only my son knows the pain he endured back then. It’s something they couldn’t understand.

She said her son has always been dog friendly; he often fed the stray animals around their house, but now he does not want to leave the house. The complainant said strict action should be taken as she does not want other children to suffer in the same way as her son.
