Meet the Missouri Department of Conservation’s New K9 Unit

Springfield, Mo. – The Missouri Conservation Department has a K9 unit for the first time.

Dogs will assist conservation officers in a variety of ways as needed statewide, such as searching for a missing person.

Dogs in the Canine Unit have official commissions through the Protection Division of the Missouri Department of Conservation.

One of the K9s, Astro, has been assigned to Polk County Conservation Officer Susan Swem and together they will cover the southwestern Missouri area.

You can meet Astro in the Missouri Department of Conservation building at this year’s Ozark Empire Fair, where Agent Swem and Astro will be doing research and discovery demonstrations.
