Pet food company expands North Sioux City plant, creating 150 jobs

The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) announced that global pet nutrition leader Royal Canin will invest $185 million in new production lines at its North Sioux City plant. This investment would expand their existing building and create 149 new full-time associate jobs, adding to the current over 380 positions.

“I applaud Royal Canin’s continued investment in North Sioux City with this expansion,” Governor Kristi Noem said. “We pride ourselves on providing a business climate that can help businesses like Royal Canin grow and succeed.

To support this investment, GOED awarded the company a Reinvestment Payment Program (RPP) grant of $3,950,145. The grant was approved by the Economic Development Board.

Cécile Coutens, President of Royal Canin North America, said: “Over the past two years, the country has seen a boom in pet ownership and increased attention to pet health. Royal Canin is thus experiencing significant growth. We want to continue investing in our business to support these pets, their owners and our professional partners. We already know what an amazing place the North Sioux City community is and are excited to expand our presence here.

This investment marks an additional commitment to the community since Royal Canin began its local expansion six years ago.

“In 2016, Royal Canin decided to build a new state-of-the-art facility. Since then they have continued to invest in their facilities and this project is just the latest commitment to North Sioux City and South Dakota. We are delighted to have been able to partner with them for their continued growth,” said GOED Commissioner Steve Westra.

Andrew Nilges, Executive Director of the North Sioux City Development Corporation, added, “Royal Canin is an innovative company and a valued member of the North Sioux City business community. Their products are known and trusted by pet owners around the world. North Sioux City appreciates that Royal Canin has chosen to expand here and is proud to work with them on their expansion project.

The area continues to attract businesses, including Royal Canin, to foster a thriving economy with many employment opportunities for area residents.
