Rehab Center Helps Dog Paralyzed By BB Gun In Sacramento Yard – Good Day Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A heartbreaking story of animal abuse has turned into a story of strength and hope.

Earlier this month, a puppy was paralyzed after someone shot him with a BB pistol through the fence in his backyard south of Sacramento. But thanks to a rehabilitation center in Rancho Cordova, this puppy can walk again.

Six-month-old Zelda is on a difficult but hopeful path to recovery after being shot.

“She has become paralyzed in her back, which means she cannot use her hind legs,” said Emily McKay, a canine physiotherapist.

She may have had a little stroke when it happened.

The owners of the animal rehabilitation center were so horrified when they heard the story of zelda – they contacted her owners – offering her three months of free treatment.

“I hope she can walk again. Whether it’s pretty or not, it’s functional so she can move around, ”McKay said.

McKay says it’s a case that she takes home with her.

“Sometimes I lay down on the bed and think about what I can do for her the next day,” she said.

And what she’s doing for zelda seems to be working out little by little.

“You want them to see these little wins because it gives them hope that there is a big win at the end of the road,” McKay said.

One day, Zelda will be able to walk again thanks to the kindness of strangers.

“She deserves the best. They all do, “

Police believe the suspects may have been children shooting BB guns from Morrison Creek, which passes behind the family property.
